Our tips to help plan your trip in India.
We thought it was worthwhile [passing on the tips we gathered during our short stay in India, to help those planning to go on a fabulous Indian Holiday to go out prepared].
Health and Safety Tips.
Food and Drink.
To avoid or minimise the risk of stomach upsets or “delhi-belly” we would suggest: -
1. Do not use ice in any drinks or in any form.
2. Only drink bottled water that you personally break the seal.
3. Do not eat raw vegetables or fruit unless they have been peeled.
4. Only eat food that has been cooked to boiling point. We found we became vegetarians, as it was much easier.
5. We purchased in the UK, yoghurt culture based tablets, which we would take each morning with cold water before eating or drinking anything. They say the culture in the tablets helps to counteract any bad bacteria.
Hygiene
In the U.K. you can buy a hand wash gel which you apply before meals. This cleans and sterilizes the hands before meals.
We would strongly suggest you take toilet paper with you, as it is often not supplied.
A camping sleeping bag sheet is also a useful thing to take. This ensures that you sleep each night in your own sheets top and bottom.
Travel Tips
Driving in India is totally alien to driving in Europe and the Western World.
There appears to be absolutely no rules, so driving in India is not an option. Hiring a vehicle with a driver is not too expensive, and is probably the best way to travel.
